Picarts Bay (Darkwood Beach)
Also known as Darkwood Beach the coast here is sandy but you will find a rocky patch marked on the charts but not visible. It is just about 1600 yards off shore from the beach due west of the sugar mill. It covers an area of approximately 350 square feet and should be given a wide berth. Ten feet can be carried to the shore but there is a tendency to shoal.
This side of the Island is the Caribbean Sea and due to the sandy shoreline the crystal clear water takes on a stunning turquoise hue. Drop anchor and swim ashore.
There are several places to eat dotted along the beach and opposite side of the road. Its a great place to stop for lunch but can be rolly as an anchor overnight.
The bay follows the name of the plantation estate situated in St Mary's. Abraham Picart was the known resident slave-owner up to about 1817.
On the west coast of Antigua a few miles south of Jolly Harbour you will find this beautiful anchorage.
