Galleon Beach

At the southern most end is a smaller more secluded beach area that is accessed either from the sea or a pathway leading to one of the National Parks hiking trails. (See more under hiking).

The main beach is white sand with some shade from fixed wooden structures. There is a large anchor resting on the shoreline and at that point, and along to The Inn hotel, entry into the sea in gently shelving and sandy. Elsewhere there is a rocky ledge. Watch out for the occasional sea urchin.

There are a couple of turtles local to the water here and a resident stingray.

This is a popular anchorage and the holding is generally good but can be a bit uncomfortable when the wind shifts to the south. Tuck in behind the reef if there is space. There is good snorkeling off the reef and the beach is great for barbecues.

Be careful not to anchor in the fairway which is marked with channel buoys.

The channel leads you into Nelson’s Dockyard Marina or further round into the sheltered Ordinance and Tank Bays.

At the entrance to the harbour is Fort Berkley where you will find the old naval fortification and the start of more hiking trails.

Galleon Beach can be found on the southernmost tip of Antigua in English Harbour, the hub of yachting.

Edging Freemans Bay, one end is situated inside the Galleon Beach Resort and the other The Inn at English Harbour Hotel. By road, public access is made in-between the two.

Whats Close?

The Inn at English Harbour. Their beach restaurant, The Reef is open for lunch.

There is a beach bar , The Cheeky Marlin at the Galleon Beach Resort, usually open high season.
